Chapter 4: The Microbiome
In this chapter we define the microbiome and the nature of its relationship to us, and the food we eat. We review the important roles it plays in human health and the links with disease, before going on to discuss how imbalance and low diversity can have a strong impact on our health. The factors supporting a healthy microbiome are discussed including short chain fatty acids and cruciferous vegetable, and those factors that can lead to poor microbiome health.
